Home heating conversion - hot water oil boiler to ai

2013-2-15 · Hello, I am playing with the idea of converting/modifing my current heating system which is a NY thermal oil fired hot water boiler with baseboard radiators over to something more efficient. I was told that there are some air to water heatpumps now on the market that I may be able to use but I am not sure if they will work. My home is 10 years old and approx 3600 sq ft incuding basement.

Steam Versus Hot Water Boilers: What's the Differenc

Steam vs. Hot Water. The main difference between a steam boiler and a hot water boiler is the amount of energy each uses. A steam boiler must burn more fuel (gas or oil) to raise the temperature of its water to boiling level, and this makes hot water boilers more energy efficient, using approximately 25% less energy than steam boilers.

Using Your Heating System to Heat Water

A copper-coil heat exchanger extends into the boiler, and water is heated as it flows through this coil. It is very much like the "tankless water heater" described last week, except that the heat source is your boiler. The problem with tankless-coil water heaters is that the boiler has to be hot to produce hot water.
